Jack and Jim’s Big Day of Very Important Cat Business

Around here, we don’t measure time in hours and minutes. We measure it in naps and snack breaks, which means Jack and Jim had an extremely productive day.

Jack started his morning shift on window patrol, stationed in his usual spot where the sun hits just right. A single leaf blew across the yard and he stared at it like it was a national security threat. Crisis averted, he rewarded himself with a 20‑minute nap, followed by a 40‑minute nap to recover from the 20‑minute nap.

Jim, meanwhile, took charge of indoor operations. His first order of business was to inspect every room to confirm that gravity still works. This, of course, required carefully batting one pen, two socks, and an innocent-looking receipt off the table. All tests came back positive: gravity is fully functional, and the human now has to bend over. Mission accomplished.

The afternoon was dedicated to their favorite team-building exercise: synchronized chaos. Jack zoomed down the hallway for absolutely no reason, and Jim joined in three seconds later, also for absolutely no reason. They ricocheted off door frames, slid across the floor, and then stopped at the exact same time to pretend nothing had happened. If you walked in at that moment, you’d think they’d been calmly sitting there all day.

In the evening, they moved on to their most important task: couch supervision. Jack claimed the warm lap zone and activated his purr motor on maximum volume. Jim handled quality control on the blanket, kneading it into the precise level of softness only a cat can understand. Between the two of them, no one in this house is allowed to get up without filing a formal request.

By bedtime, Jack and Jim had completed all scheduled purring, zooming, staring, and snack negotiations. Another successful day of Very Important Cat Business in the books—and tomorrow, they fully intend to do it all over again, with minor improvements and possibly more treats.
